I'm back down in central Florida after fun and challenging assignments in Georgia and North Carolina over the last week. Though I'm from Florida, I mostly know the extreme north and south of my native state. The central corridor is home to a lot of what makes this state famous around the world: citrus/agriculture, Disney, phosphorus, Hooters and retirees. Upon first arriving at our in-laws I immediately noticed that my mother-in-law had gone to certain length to cover up her air conditioner in the garage... leaving a crazy and beautiful tableau of retired/grandparent status. Yesterday we dropped by Plant City, which in addition to spring training baseball (which just started), is famous for their annual strawberry festival (also just about to kick-off). The fruit stand turned restaurant was mobbed... with a line of more than 200-deep waiting to get their favorite strawberry-packed dessert. We were no different (though I was more interested in their boiled peanuts). JLP will return back to NYC next Monday be down in Miami next week and will return back in NYC in March... but as always loving a brief vacation down to visit family and what I consider to be the "real Florida."
